Question by Rachel: What are some crafts for kids using colored contact paper?

I have a lot of contact paper left over from the cupboards but it's not the clear kind. I have blue and green checkered and wood grain. Any ideas on crafts I can do with these with the kids from my nanny job?

You can "cover" metal cans, or other flat or cylindrical surfaces with them, for one thing, then use them for storage, or holding tools or supplies, etc, depending on the size and shape of the containers, etc.

You could also have them do symmetrical cut outs from the contact paper (with the backing paper left on... fold in half or in quarters, etc, first), then place them on clothing, fabric, or paper and use them as stencils. You could use sponges, etc., to pounce acrylic paint onto the stencil, then let paint dry at least a little before peeling off the Contact paper. Those will be sticky enough to be used several times if they're pressed down well probably... the last times would be best on paper so they won't be so sticky they can't be easily removed; or on paper, just leave the backing paper on and tape the stencil to the paper/etc to keep it from moving while applying the paint.
You can also buy fabric spray paints and spray over the stencils for a more dotty effect, or perhaps just water down the acrylic paints and use those, or other permanent liquid colorants. Let those dry completely before using another stencil in the same place though if you want to try that, so the colors won't blend.

Here are a bunch more ideas:
